School bus incident – 21st September
Dear Parent/carer
I wanted you to be aware that one of the Stephenson’s buses (446) was involved in an incident as they brought students to Joyce Frankland Academy and Saffron Walden County High School this morning. While the full details are being investigated, we are aware that the bus roof was damaged as it struck a tree branch.
We know the police and ambulance services are managing the situation to assess everyone involved, and thankfully our current understanding is that no serious injuries have been caused. However, we are aware that some students have been taken to A&E and minor injuries by their parents to have some cuts and grazes looked at.
The school arranged for a minibus to collect the students and bring them to school as quickly as possible. While most students appear to be OK, we know that this could have been a traumatic experience. Therefore, we have made arrangements in school to provide a space for anyone who may be in shock or upset by the events. All staff have been made aware of the incident and the space that has been made available for students involved.
If any parents of students involved have any concerns, they can contact the school and ask to speak to Mr Stoneham and he will get back to you as soon as possible. We will also contact any parents directly if we believe they need to be at home today.
Thank you to all students and parents for the calm manner in which they helped to handle the situation.
We will also liaise with Stephenson’s to confirm that an alternative bus service will be made available tomorrow and over the coming days.
Kind Regards
Joyce Frankland Academy
