Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport welcomes experienced education leader as Principal
Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport (JFAN), part of Anglian Learning, is proud to announce the appointment of Deborah Warwick as its new Principal.
With over 27 years of experience in education and a passion for inclusive, values-led leadership, Deborah brings a wealth of expertise and a personal commitment to pupil success.
Before teaching, Deborah, who grew up in Hertfordshire, worked as part of an immunodiagnostics research team, where she discovered a desire to teach and make a difference in young people’s lives. She went on to earn an Honours Degree in Biotechnology, followed by a PGCE in Secondary Education, marking the beginning of her journey as a teacher and leader.
Throughout her career, Deborah has taken on a wide range of senior leadership roles, both in curriculum and pastoral capacities. One of her proudest moments was becoming headteacher of the very school she attended as a child, a role that deepened her commitment to inclusive, values-driven leadership. Deborah qualified as an Executive Headteacher in 2023.
On her appointment, she said, “I am honoured to lead the school into its next chapter, ensuring that every member of JFAN’s community feels a deep sense of belonging and connection to its aspirational, inclusive, and celebratory culture.
“My vision is for pupils to achieve great things, both academically and in the broader aspects of school life, because we will work together to remove any barriers to their success. In our school, everyone thrives in a kind and safe culture where every individual is celebrated.”
Deborah joined Anglian Learning in September 2023, working alongside Ian Stoneham, Principal at Bassingbourn Village College. During this time, she developed a strong connection with Anglian Learning’s DNA and Core Principles, which inspired her to apply for a permanent leadership role within the Trust.
Duncan Cooper, Director of Secondary Education at Anglian Learning, said, “At Anglian Learning, we are committed to progressing talent from within the Trust. Deborah’s appointment is an empowering example of how internal progression strengthens our communities. Her extensive leadership experience across diverse educational settings, alongside her values-driven approach, makes her exceptionally well placed to lead JFAN.
“Deborah brings both strategic insight and a heartfelt commitment to pupils’ success, and I am confident her leadership will ensure the school continues to prosper as a place where young people thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”
