PERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH AND ECONOMIC EDUCATION (PSHEE)

PSHEE and RSE is taught by subject specialists to Years 7 to 9.  In Years 10 and 11, PSHEE and RSE is taught by the Form Tutor as well as a series of external speakers and timetable collapses.  A thematic approach to the curriculum is used where students revisit health, drugs and sex and relationships education throughout their time at Joyce Frankland Academy Newport.  Participation and progress is monitored so that all students gain their entitlement to PSHEE and RSE provision.

Personal, social, health and economic education provision is coordinated by the PSHE Coordinator and taught by subject specialists and Form Tutors and outside specialists as appropriate. PSHEE is also supported and taught across the curriculum in other subject areas.

RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION (RSE)

At Joyce Frankland Academy Newport we aim to provide a balanced relationships and sex education programme which combines the emotional, physical, moral, legal and social aspects of sex and relationships.

We encourage the students to explore their own attitudes and values providing them with the skills to manage their relationships in a responsible and healthy manner. As we seek to prepare our students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, we regard relationships and sex education as an important part of their learning.

If for any reason you wish to excuse your child from receiving relationships and sex education at school, please refer to the RSE policy on the Academy website.
