SEND
Our vision
At Joyce Frankland Academy we strive to deliver a high-quality education to all students within our inclusive classrooms and school community. Within our school community we understand that each student has diverse and unique needs and that some students require more support than others. Our teachers and pastoral staff strive to provide a safe and secure learning environment to promote independent learning and skills that equip students for adult life post 16. We endeavour to promote self-confidence and a positive attitude to learning that will stay with students throughout their life. Within the SEND department we assess, plan and regularly review student progress in set realistic targets to support students educational provision and emotional needs.
Who are we?
At Joyce Frankland we value inclusion within the classroom environment, so students have access to the same high-quality teaching and curriculum as their peers. In some cases, additional support is needed, and students may need time-limited interventions which are reviewed and monitored by the SEND team to support students to reach their full potential.
Our SEND team consists of our SENDco, SEND administrator, one HLTA who is responsible for interventions and 4 teaching assistants who are responsible for supporting students within the classroom. We also have our Student Support Officers (SSOs) who support pastorally with each year group.
Where is the SEND department?
The SEND department is based next to student reception and the library. During lunchtime, the library offers a quiet space for friends to socialise, play board games and practise mindfulness activities. We also have Friday Film Club run by one of our TAs within the department. We also have safe spaces available for students to come and find a member of our team during the school day if needed.
